वास्तु का शाब्दिक अर्थ निवासस्थान होता है। इसके सिद्धांत वातावरण में जल, पृथ्वी, वायु, अग्नि और आकाश तत्वों के बीच एक सामंजस्य स्थापित करने में मदद करते हैं। जल, पृथ्वी, वायु, अग्नि और आकाश इन पाँचों तत्वों का हमारे कार्य प्रदर्शन, स्वभाव, भाग्य एवं जीवन के अन्य पहलुओं पर पड़ता है। यह विद्या भारत की प्राचीनतम विद्याओं में से एक है जिसका संबंध दिशाओं और ऊर्जाओं से है। इसके अंतर्गत दिशाओं को आधार बनाकर आसपास मौजूद नकारात्मक ऊर्जाओं को कुछ इस तरह सकारात्मक किया जाता है, ताकि वह मानव जीवन पर अपना प्रतिकूल प्रभाव ना डाल सकें The literal meaning of Vastu is abode.
